The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) was established in 1978 in Vancouver, Canada as the main UN agency dedicated to promoting sustainable urban development and ensuring adequate shelter for all. With over half the world’s population now living in major cities, UN-Habitat focuses on making urban areas more safe, resilient, and environmentally sustainable. In the face of increasing climate change impacts, UN-Habitat supports member states in developing innovative solutions and sustainable infrastructure. Moreover, the agency advocates for the role of inclusive community approaches in ensuring that vulnerable groups such as informal settlements, at-risk populations are actively engaged in shaping their urban futures.

In this committee, delegates will debate strategies to strengthen sustainable climate resilience in urban areas by combining technological innovation alongside social inclusion, empowering communities to tackle environmental and infrastructural challenges.
